Malfunctioning Air-Brake Symptoms
Difficulty Starting Compressor
If your air compressor isn’t starting properly, you may have a malfunctioning unloader valve. Unloader valves are designed to release the air that’s trapped in your compression chamber after each use. This release allows the compressor to start a lot easier. Malfunctioning unloader valves are typically caused by a carbon buildup and are commonly found on engines equipped with EGR systems. Fortunately, unloader valves are easy to fix. Our shop will clean them or replace them entirely if necessary.
Screeching Brakes
If your brakes start to screech when activated, your heavy-duty brake pads are likely worn out. When your brake calipers are engaged, your brake pads are compressed against your brake rotor. When these pads are worn down, there’s nothing left to compress against the rotor except the caliper itself, hence the screeching sound. Be sure to get your truck in for service as soon as possible if you hear this sound, for if not, you may need to replace the caliper as well.
